when all teachers incorporate language development into their instruction, all students—especially emergent multilingual students—have improved access to content while practicing critical linguistic skills throughout the school day.

the integrated english language development (eld) model guides educators to combine content and language instruction so that every student, regardless of english proficiency, can access rigorous content learning and meet learning standards. keeping language learners in classrooms with their peers—rather than pulling them out for language development—also benefits students by allowing them to build connections with peers while accessing appropriate grade-level core content.
